First Impressions – Kat Von D Innerstellar Eyeshadow Palette

If there’s any beauty brand that gives off that wild, rock n’ roll, kind of vibe, it’s definitely Kat Von D Beauty! Like its namesake, tattoo artist and entrepreneur Kat Von D, the brand takes pride in not only producing high-quality cosmetics, but also in its edgy, rebel creative spirit – from colour variety, shade names, and even to the intricate designs that adorn its packaging. KVD herself takes pride in being personally involved with every aspect of production, and what started out as a collaboration with Sephora has transformed into a full-on beauty revolution – bold and outspoken, the KVD way is actually very simple – be your most creative YOU!

Here in the Philippines, the brand isn’t readily available yet. Luckily, online sellers help make sourcing and ordering items from the most coveted beauty brands so much easier! I happen to frequently use Instagram in my search, looking for the best deals for hard-to-find beauty items!

My search led me to this beauty: the Kat Von D Innerstellar Eyeshadow Palette!

Now, you may ask why I chose to purchase this KVD eyeshadow palette instead of the popular Shade + Light Eye Palette, or the Monarch Eyeshadow Palette (which has actually been discontinued – NOOOOOOOO!!!). I own the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, which mainly has warm-toned colours; and I was looking for a beautiful cool-toned palette to add to my little arsenal as a counterpart to it.

This palette is just BEAUTIFUL – a galactic array of mattes and shimmers, in KVD’s signature quad configuration for go-to combinations. Of course, you have the freedom to decide what shades you want to mix and match!

For the packaging, the front of the palette is adorned with reflective orbs and stylized script, keeping close with the stellar theme. The palette is made out of very sturdy cardboard – it gives a good heft when held. Magnetic snaps ensure that the palette stays closed when not in use.

Innerstellar is made up for 12 eyeshadows, arranged in a quad configuration. Three of the shadows are in larger pans, and this is usually done for shades that are best used as a base! I’ll be showing arm swatches after the shade descriptions.

The eyeshadows are as follows, starting with the 3 large pans:

  • Gravitron – pale, iridescent pink
  • Vast – light, pearl taupe
  • Lycan – matte, light cream

  • Night Crawler – matte, dusty beige
  • Dios – iridescent silver-gray
  • Lunacy – medium purple, pearl finish
  • Astrological – pale, lilac pearl
  • Darkstar – deep purple pewter
  • Orion – matte, medium chocolate brown
  • 3am – metallic deep taupe
  • Moonshine – metallic silver
  • Killing Moon – deep black matte

The shadows are soft, but not crumbly. Soft, buttery, and pigmented – it only makes me eager to test these out on a actual look! I’m thinking of pairing this with a nude lip to balance the shimmer or bold colours, or with an iridescent, glossy lip to really bring things to a stellar level!

What Kat Von D product should I try next? Is there any beauty brand that you’ve always wanted to try? 🙂
