If you manage to somehow discover a copy of my school yearbook back when I was Senior Prep, then you’ll find out that besides me loving to talk about what I did on vacation, I love to talk about a particular cartoon featuring a magical girl who calls upon the power of the moon to transform into a pretty soldier – that’s right, my favourite childhood show was Sailor Moon!
And surprise, surprise – almost two decades later, I’ve managed to fall in love with the series all over again. (Check out what I have to say about it on here!)
When I really like a series or a band or a group (or anything I’m very deeply into the fandom of), I try to look for official merchandise and stores that sell them. Now, I’ve always talked about the wonders of Instagram and online selling, and sometimes it takes a bit of digging to find the store that sells exactly what you’re looking for!
Through a chain of clicks, I stumbled upon this gem of a store – Tokyo Fanatics!
From their Facebook page:
Tokyo Fanatics is a seller of small items straight from Japan. Our merchandise includes: gashapons, beauty/skincare products, Japanese magazines, and more.
They even do special orders – they recently had a pre-order for the Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu!! stage play goods, which I sadly was not able to avail of. ;A; (It’s really funny how an anime about BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL somehow took over a good part of my life – but seriously, watch Haikyuu!! and join me and scores of other fans! Heh.)
I love looking through their pages and looking at the merch they offer. Until earlier this year, they posted this:
This photo was posted near the end of February, and they were still waiting for their package to arrive from Japan. Tokyo Fanatics has a very smart way of selling – they do not post prices until the stocks arrive, so customers are assured that their orders are ready to ship as soon as they send payment and proof of transaction. But that also means they’re building up a lot of anticipation, and I ended up chec
king their Facebook page almost every day just to see if the pens were on hand already!
By 18 April, they finally posted the Sailor Moon Frixion Ballpen album and I pretty much had a hard time deciding which designs to buy! The ink for the ballpens are the same colour as the pen casing. Each ballpen barrel features a Sailor Senshi; and the Wands & Compacts pens come in blue, black, or red. There’s also a Constellation/Neo Queen Serenity design, which comes in black ink.
From SailorMoonCollectibles.com (I visit this website often to see what new Sailor Moon merchandise have been released!):
Frixion Ball are unique pens that are erasable, friction-generated heat caused when rubbing the paper with the special eraser tip turns the ink invisible with no damage to the paper. The pen tip is 0.5mm size and they come in 10 colours. You can choose from 14 pen designs, ranging from NeoQueen Serenity to all 10 senshi! The retail price is 330 yen each.
Wands/Compacts (Black, Red, Blue)
Sailor Moon (Pink)
Sailor Mercury (Light Blue)
Sailor Mars (Red)
Sailor Jupiter (Light Green)
Sailor Venus (Orange)
Sailor Chibimoon (Pink)
Sailor Uranus (Blue)
Sailor Neptune (Green)
Sailor Pluto (Blue-Black)
Sailor Saturn (Violet)
And by 27 April, these arrived for me:
I ordered a Sailor Jupiter one because she’s my favourite Sailor Senshi, a Sailor Saturn one because it’s violet (my favourite colour, haha), and a black Wands & Compacts one because who can go wrong with a black pen, right? And I could easily buy refills for it, since National Bookstore already sells Pilot Frixion pens anyway.
But was that enough for me?
OF COURSE NOT! (Welp.)
By 3 May, another package from ToFa arrived for me:
This time around, I got a Sailor Pluto pen because I liked that it was blue-black (and also because she’s the badass Guardian of Space and Time), and a blue Wands & Compacts one because it’s another one I would regularly use.
Aaaaaand I also got a Sailor Moon Premium Sebon Star Moon Prism Candy Toy. 😀 (What a name!)
From SailorMoonCollectibles.com again:
To commemorate Sailor Moon’s 20th anniversary and Kabaya’s Sebon Star’s 35th anniversary, they are collaborating to release “Premium Sebon Star Moon Prism”! These are affordable candy toy necklaces that come packaged with lemon soda flavoured sweets, the retail price is 300 yen per package. In this collaboration there will be 10 different shapes with 5 different colours, one for each senshi, so in total there are 50 to collect. The pendants are made of plastic, they will be shiny and for the coloured plastic parts some of them will be pearly to give it a more luxurious “premium” look. These are scheduled for release in November 2015, they will be available in supermarkets and convenience stores.
ToFa opened all the boxes of their stock so that people would know which design they were getting. You would think that it would be detrimental, but not at all! The candies are kept in a separate packet, and the charm necklace in its own plastic sleeve. And well, who wouldn’t want to know what they were getting if the product series featured TEN DESIGNS IN FIVE DIFFERENT COLOURS WHICH MEANT FIFTY DIFFERENT CHARMS?
Here are some more photos of my purchases!
Overall, shopping at Tokyo Fanatics is definitely worth a 10/10 rating for me! Not only do they supply official products from popular anime and game series, but they also do special orders upon request. They are very responsive to messages and it’s very easy to communicate with them. Definitely recommending this to all my friends who like to collect anime merchandise! 🙂
