Review: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks

Hello again, friends! This post is long overdue, but I hope you still enjoy reading this review. 😀

Liquid lipsticks are still on trend these days, with companies releasing their own version of them. I still personally prefer and love NYX Cosmetics most, because of its large shade range – and their below-P500 price range for lipsticks really can’t be beat! Everyone loves their Soft Matte Lip Creams, which have also expanded their range with new additions; but I’m here to review 4 of their Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks!

I purchased mine from a NYX store in SM Fairview while visiting a friend. I spent a good amount of time swatching them on my lips, and I ended up buying 2 neutral shades and 2 deeper ones.

Doll up your lips in plush and vibrant color! Our Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick glides on and sets into a striking matte finish. Now available in 12 more velvety-soft shades, this waterproof lippie creates a positively polished look with every swipe.

The Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks come in barrel tubes that are larger than the Soft Matte Lip Creams – I’d say they’re almost twice the size. The wand has a sponge-tipped applicator that is slightly flattened, some people don’t like this but I personally do, because I can use the narrow edge to outline my lips and the wider surface to smooth product broadly.

The 4 shades I purchased are Sandstorm, Soft-Spoken, Cherry Skies, and Vintage.

Sandstorm is a nude brown. I was quite hesitant to pick this up because it’s such a nude colour – and I don’t really wear really nude colours because I don’t like my lips looking lifeless, as it’s a favourite feature of mine. But after I applied it on my lips, I actually really liked it! It has a slight rosiness to it, so it doesn’t look dead and grey on me.

Soft-Spoken is no doubt the runaway favourite of the line. (The Olsen twins wore the shade at the 2015 Met Gala, and everyone was just itching to find out what it was that they wore.) It’s a very pretty mauve, with just the right balance of pink and brown for a universally flattering shade. I love this shade, and I was very fortunate to pick up a tube. I’m still looking for another one to purchase as a backup!

Cherry Skies is a pretty, deep red. I’d say it’s more blue-toned, but it has a very slight warmth to it, which also makes it flattering for many skintones. I found this one a bit trickier to work with, since I didn’t wear any lipliner. But nevertheless, it’s a nice colour!

Vintage is a lovely rosewood colour. I like its dusty burgundy tones, which make the shade deep without verging into vampy-dark territory. I’d recommend this to people who want to try deeper shades of lipstick, since you can wear a single layer for a soft colour, or layer it with one more coat for more opacity.

  • Nice variety of shades – it comes in 12 shades (currently available in the PH), and they’ve added another 12! The only colour they’re missing – green!
  • Waterproof and quite resistant to food and drink – it also leaves a stain even if most of the colour wears off, like when eating oily food.
  • Great value for price. (P390 at NYX stores)

  • The darker shades are a bit trickier to work with, especially Cherry Skies – I had to remove and reapply, since I didn’t wear lipliner.
  • This is a personal thing, but I’m not too happy with the more liquid formula. I still prefer the creamy texture of the Soft Matte Lip Creams.

Overall, I like the Liquid Suedes. I especially love Sandstorm and Soft-Spoken: I’m still in my nude lipstick phase, and I don’t think I’m coming out of it anytime soon!

(Also, did you notice the new font for my watermarks? I’ve been meaning to change it for a while, and I found this really pretty script font that I feel works for me. :D)

Thanks for reading! 🙂
