Lipsticks of the Week: 22-23 March, 29 March-3 April 2016

Hello, friends! 🙂 Yesterday marked the end of my Lipsticks of the Week series (otherwise known as March Madness to me, haha). I’m really happy and relieved that I’ve finished my very first series on my blog; it’s the first time I’ve really done anything like this!

Let’s look back at the lipsticks from 22-23 March, because I only went to work on those days that week. It was the Holy Week celebration here in the Philippines, and I was off work from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday – I figured it was only natural to not wear makeup on those holidays, mainly because I felt it would be respectful to the actual reason for Holy Week.

TUESDAY – 22 March

Aha, a photo wherein you can see my whole face! This was Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip in Clueless – a pretty mauve-pink that somehow brightens up my face. And for good measure – I had to work a morning shift that day, which my evening/closing shift body clock totally hates! Needless to say, I was so, so sleepy.. but Clueless makes me look less tired, I think. And me, not love this lip colour? AS IF!

WEDNESDAY – 23 March

NYX Butter Gloss in Peach Cobbler was actually the first one I purchased from the Butter Gloss line – it was the only one available when I visited the NYX Cosmetics store in SM City Cebu, while on a solo trip there. It looks intimidating, a bright orange straight out of the tube; but once slicked onto the lips it’s actually a pretty coral. I love that colour is buildable, and lips never feel parched. A word of caution – don’t slather on too many layers as it’ll end up quite tacky! But nevertheless, the Butter Glosses are really in a league of their own; at least to me!

Lipsticks of the Week: 15-20 March 2016

Hello friends! This week’s not only been busy, but excruciatingly hot as well! ;A; But then again, looking forward to what lipstick I’ll be wearing for the day helps to beat the summer heat blues.. or.. reds? I don’t know. Haha!

15 March - 16 March

TUESDAY – 15 March

Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Foxy Lady was gifted to me by one of my best friends, Alexis, and I’d only gotten to wear this beauty that day! It looks scary and dark in the tube, but it applies on as a beautiful, sheer espresso brown. Though not very pigmented, I like that I can layer it on for more coverage; and yet it manages to sit comfortably on my lips.

WEDNESDAY – 16 March

I wore a favourite – LA Splash’s Smitten Waterproof Liptint Mousse in Nymphadora (now called Nymphaea). I bought it mainly because of the Harry Potter reference (I am a Potterhead, and always will be – hello, Tonks!), and kept using and wearing it because it’s such a pretty nude brown on me. I love it! I’ve actually got a backup tube stashed in my closet. Hahaha! Continue reading “Lipsticks of the Week: 15-20 March 2016”

Lipsticks of the Week: 8-13 March 2016

Hello, friends! Another week has passed, which means it’s another set of lipsticks to backtrack and to talk about for this recap post. Shall we begin?

8 March - 9 March
8 March – 9 March

TUESDAY – 8 March

I wanted to start the week on a bright note, so I opted for Too Cool For School’s Hot Color Lip Sticker in Hawaiian Flower. The tube itself is tiny – think of a sample lipstick, or one of those play “lipsticks” you’d find in kiddie playsets. Other than that, the colour is vibrant and lasts pretty well even when most of it’s gone; because it leaves a nice stain on the lips. I’d use this for an ombrĂ© effect, but then again that look’s never really suited me! It’s a pretty purple-pink colour, perfect for summer. (It already feels like summer; the heat’s getting crazy in Manila!)

I wore Colourpop’s Lippie Stix in Tootsi for Wednesday. Before I bought it, I really took time to think about it – I was in the middle of my greige phase, and I wanted an alternative to Colourpop’s Ultra Matte in Trap because I knew liquid lipsticks were prone to making my lips feel really dry. Tootsi was the best alternative, and I don’t regret buying it at all – it’s a pale nude with just a hint of rosiness, so I don’t look washed out or dead when I wear it! I actually bought a second tube, and because sharing is caring I offered it to my friend who bought it from me – at a discounted price, of course! (What are friends for, right? Hee.)

Lipsticks of the Week: 1-6 March 2016

Hello, friends! A week has gone by and I’ve been diligently wearing a different lipstick for each day. My little lipstick calendar has been taped to my mirror, and I’m always excited to see what lip product’s next. I didn’t restrict myself to bullet lipsticks, so there are glosses and liquid lipsticks in the month’s lineup as well.

Without any further ado, here’s the week’s lip colours!

1 March – 2 March

TUESDAY – 1 March

I decided to kick off my work week, and my first Lipsticks of the Week series, with a long-time favourite – NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes. The SMLCs have been consistently well-received by online reviewers and bloggers, not only for their wide range of shades and lovely formulation, but also because it smells like cake. (Which, you know, is a definite plus for me.) Cannes is the very first SMLC and the very first NYX product I’ve ever purchased, and it’s always going to be part of my little kit – it’s my favourite lip colour for everyday, after all! It’s an MLBB for me, though leaning on the browner side of things. Application’s a dream, colour’s beautiful, and my lips don’t feel bone-dry.

Revlon’s ColorBurst Matte Balm in Elusive rang in my Wednesday. It’s actually a lip colour I wore quite often a couple of years ago, in my first semester of law school. In the photo, it looks very similar to my previous lipstick, but this time around it leans more pink. It’s not as much of an MLBB to me as Cannes is, too. What I like about this is that you get a minty sensation when you apply it onto your lips (I like minty things), and your lips feel quite nourished, as it’s more of a pigmented balm formulation as opposed to a true lipstick. Also, Elusive is such a pretty pink that I’ve used it a few times as a cream blush!

Smoked Nude Makeup (or, how I spent my day off)

Hello friends! Before anything, here’s a little update!

My current job at Bread&Botany (Facebook|Instagram) as a front-of-house entails that I not only be a waitstaff & cashier, but also a bartender (we serve gin & tonics from 5pm-closing!) and ice cream girl (I’m quite good at the swirl, woohoo!). It’s been stressful, but so much fun because I’ve been learning a lot! I can’t believe it’s only been 2 weeks since I even got interviewed for the job, and it feels like I’ve known my workmates for ages!

I get Mondays off, so I spent most of this morning asleep (as usual haha), but a conversation with some friends involving Colourpop’s Lippie Stix in Tootsi got me thinking of making a look with it! (And well, I couldn’t help playing with my Too Faced Chocolate Bar again.)

The finished result!
The finished result!

This look also gave me the opportunity to play with 2 new products I purchased over the Christmas season – the Maybelline Super Mineral 24 Healthy Long Lasting Foundation in OC3, and the Etude House Drawing Eye Brow cream pencil in 05 (yes – it’s GRAY). I used a classic paddle brush to apply the foundation thinly, as my skin still isn’t in the best condition – the light coverage manages to even out my skintone, which is good enough for me! As for the gray brow pencil, I think it makes my brows look more defined. I made sure to brush on some brow mascara (I used Majolica Majorca’s Brow & Lash Colorist in BR555), so the gray isn’t too jarring!

And if you’re wondering why there’s a men’s after shave balm in the products I used – that’s because the Nivea Men Post Shave Balm in Sensitive is one of the BEST primers out there! I found out about it through NikkieTutorials on YouTube, and a friend managed to get one for me as a gift. Needless to say, foundation glides on so smoothly and my makeup pretty much lasts whatever it needs to get through!

Review: Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Chilly Chili

Nothing cold about this Chilly Chili – the color is just hot, hot, HOT!

Hello, friends! This one is a little overdue, as I was supposed to put this up after the Pegacorn & Wisp review – oops! Needless to say, Christmas is literally TOMORROW and things have been a tad busy in the house, with my younger sister and nephew home for the holidays, and my grandma arriving today, it’ll be a very full house!

This Ultra Matte Lip arrived along with Pegacorn and Wisp. I made a look around this liquid lipstick, and needless to say, it brought out the grunge in me!

Chilly Chili is part of Colourpop’s limited edition 90s-themed shades; along with Bad Habit, More Better, Instigator, and First Class. (I originally wanted to purchase More Better, but it was out of stock at the time.)

As per usual with my Colourpop purchases, I bought these from Maquillage PH (Facebook|Instagram). Lately, I’ve been seeing sellers with slightly cheaper prices for Colourpop orders, but honestly, MPH’s payment scheme just can’t be beat. Trust me on this!

Don’t know what this means? Neither do we, but you can rock this muted plummy brown anyway!

application tips: Step 1: Make sure your lips are bare and dry! Step 2: Apply matching lip pencil for a precise and perfected application. Step 3: Apply Ultra Matte Lip with the applicator or your favorite lip brush. **For smoothest finish always exfoliate your lips first! This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves SUPER intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It’s very long wearing and completely kiss proof!
The Ultra Matte Lip comes in the usual clear liquid lipstick tube, but with a silver twist cap.  A portion of the top part of the product tube, under the screw-on portion is silver as well. Holographic print for the label name also adorns it. The shade name and the batch code is on a sticker at the base as well.

Review: Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter in Wisp and Blush in Pegacorn

Hello, friends! It’s a really dreary and gloomy day in Manila, thanks to all this rain. It’s odd, in my opinion, that it’s raining in December, but at least the weather is cooler as opposed to how hot it’s been lately.

And it’s the perfect opportunity for me to write about two lovely cheek products that definitely brightened up my day, ever since I got them! I took the photos a couple of weeks ago, but because I’ve been busy with personal things, only got around to editing and really making a proper post about them today.

I present to you Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek highlighter in Wisp, and blush in Pegacorn!

So sit back, have a nice cup of tea (like how I am at the moment), and have a bit of light reading on this post.

These were purchased along with an Ultra Matte Lip (which I’ll be reviewing in a separate post) from my current favorite online merchant, Ms. Che of Maquillage PH (Facebook | Instagram). I don’t think I need to tell you just how much I love her shop! (If you forgot, check back here!)

Wisp: Lemme wisp-er in your ear, tell you something that you might like to hear, wait till you see our Golden champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome finishes.

Pegacorn: This deep violet in a satin finish is a combination of the most magical things (both figuratively and literally)

application tips: Fingertips will provide the highest amount of coverage. Brush suggestions: Use a flat synthetic cheek/ foundation brush or a short duo fiber brush; flat synthetic brush will give more coverage and the duo fiber brush will give a more sheer, air brushed effect. WHEN FINISHED: Close that sucker up tight! Don’t leave the jar opened for long periods of time; you may lose some of the magic that makes the Super Shock Cheek so amazzzing. Colour builds from natural- looking flushed looks to more intense bright looks. … Build to your heart’s desire!

Review: Colourpop Lippie Stix in Tootsi and Ultra Matte Lip in Trap

When I first encountered this beauty buzzword, I said “whaaaaa?” Did somebody think of typing “grey” but then think of “beige” halfway?

Turns out, that’s kind of what it is!

Greige is a combination of the words gray and beige, to describe a color that’s basically a mix of the two. The term isn’t only used for beauty and makeup, but for interior design and decoration – a quick Google search with the term “greige” and you’ll find a news article that talks all about the shade as the color that took over Pinterest in mid-2015, but do a bit of more searching and you’ll find XO Beauty Addict’s entry about how the greige lipstick trend rose to popularity near the end of 2014.

Being a late bloomer (haha), I tend to pick up trends that float around on the Internet, but never really get around to trying them for myself until months after, for a variety of reasons. However, I decided to take the plunge at giving greige a chance because of my sudden curiosity for the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kylie.

..which is why I bought these two Colourpop lipsticks: the Lippie Stix in Tootsi, and the Ultra Matte Lip in Trap!

I purchased mine from Ms. Che of Maquillage PH (Facebook | Instagram). I love her online shop because it’s the only one I know that accepts pre-orders without the necessity to deposit a downpayment upon order, with payment only requiring to be sent a week before the package arrives. It takes a little longer to arrive, but it’s worth the wait because you know your orders are legit, and not to mention the prices are really the best I’ve seen so far.
