Review: Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Collection

Whoever created this palette that combines two of my favorite things – chocolate and makeup – is a genius. (Thank you, Jerrod Blandino.)

This is probably my favorite out of the birthday presents I received this year – I actually requested my dad to get me this when he was in the U.S. for an alumni event!

..aaaaaaand it’s only now that I’ve gotten around to making proper swatches and actually gotten around to playing with this beautiful palette!

I don’t remember how I first got to knowing about this palette, but I knew I had to have it – I had been constantly thinking about it for over 3 years, and I was so frustrated that the ones sold here in Manila were more expensive than I thought – after all, Too Faced is a relatively high-end brand that isn’t locally available yet. (Only online sellers and specialty sellers at bazaars usually carry this brand.) But as I mentioned, my dad was in the U.S. for an alumni homecoming earlier this year and I instantly asked for this palette.

NO REGRETS.

Hello, baby. (Sorry for the lighting! ><)

I was fortunate enough to get it in its newer, sleeker packaging – the original packaging was thicker, and thus, bulkier. Also, it used to have a plastic insert with the names, which isn’t a worry with its current packaging which already has the shade labels printed onto it. The palette case is made out of strong metal, and has a magnetic closure. I find it satisfying to hear it close, actually – is that strange? Anyway, it feels very sturdy and has a good heft when carried in hand.

And when you open the palette: AHHHHHH. The smell of success.

Actually, it’s the smell of chocolate – these shadows are infused with cocoa powder!

The Chocolate Bar experience begins as soon as you open the palette and the smell of sweet chocolate envelops you. The eye shadows are pigmented with pure, antioxidant-rich cocoa powder and includes 16 matte and shimmer shades of natural browns, delicate pinks and luscious plums.

Review: Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Chilly Chili

Nothing cold about this Chilly Chili – the color is just hot, hot, HOT!

Hello, friends! This one is a little overdue, as I was supposed to put this up after the Pegacorn & Wisp review – oops! Needless to say, Christmas is literally TOMORROW and things have been a tad busy in the house, with my younger sister and nephew home for the holidays, and my grandma arriving today, it’ll be a very full house!

This Ultra Matte Lip arrived along with Pegacorn and Wisp. I made a look around this liquid lipstick, and needless to say, it brought out the grunge in me!

Chilly Chili is part of Colourpop’s limited edition 90s-themed shades; along with Bad Habit, More Better, Instigator, and First Class. (I originally wanted to purchase More Better, but it was out of stock at the time.)

As per usual with my Colourpop purchases, I bought these from Maquillage PH (Facebook|Instagram). Lately, I’ve been seeing sellers with slightly cheaper prices for Colourpop orders, but honestly, MPH’s payment scheme just can’t be beat. Trust me on this!

Don’t know what this means? Neither do we, but you can rock this muted plummy brown anyway!

application tips: Step 1: Make sure your lips are bare and dry! Step 2: Apply matching lip pencil for a precise and perfected application. Step 3: Apply Ultra Matte Lip with the applicator or your favorite lip brush. **For smoothest finish always exfoliate your lips first! This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves SUPER intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It’s very long wearing and completely kiss proof!
The Ultra Matte Lip comes in the usual clear liquid lipstick tube, but with a silver twist cap.  A portion of the top part of the product tube, under the screw-on portion is silver as well. Holographic print for the label name also adorns it. The shade name and the batch code is on a sticker at the base as well.

Review: Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter in Wisp and Blush in Pegacorn

Hello, friends! It’s a really dreary and gloomy day in Manila, thanks to all this rain. It’s odd, in my opinion, that it’s raining in December, but at least the weather is cooler as opposed to how hot it’s been lately.

And it’s the perfect opportunity for me to write about two lovely cheek products that definitely brightened up my day, ever since I got them! I took the photos a couple of weeks ago, but because I’ve been busy with personal things, only got around to editing and really making a proper post about them today.

I present to you Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek highlighter in Wisp, and blush in Pegacorn!

So sit back, have a nice cup of tea (like how I am at the moment), and have a bit of light reading on this post.

20151126_124118

20151126_124134

These were purchased along with an Ultra Matte Lip (which I’ll be reviewing in a separate post) from my current favorite online merchant, Ms. Che of Maquillage PH (Facebook | Instagram). I don’t think I need to tell you just how much I love her shop! (If you forgot, check back here!)

Wisp: Lemme wisp-er in your ear, tell you something that you might like to hear, wait till you see our Golden champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome finishes.

Pegacorn: This deep violet in a satin finish is a combination of the most magical things (both figuratively and literally)

application tips: Fingertips will provide the highest amount of coverage. Brush suggestions: Use a flat synthetic cheek/ foundation brush or a short duo fiber brush; flat synthetic brush will give more coverage and the duo fiber brush will give a more sheer, air brushed effect. WHEN FINISHED: Close that sucker up tight! Don’t leave the jar opened for long periods of time; you may lose some of the magic that makes the Super Shock Cheek so amazzzing. Colour builds from natural- looking flushed looks to more intense bright looks. … Build to your heart’s desire!

Review: City Color Be Matte Blush in Guava

Ah, the life of a lazy makeup junkie – wanting to put something nice on, even when we just can’t be bothered to put on a full face of makeup! Some days, we choose to play up and define our eyes. Other days, a swipe of lipstick or lip gloss does the trick. And other times, when we feel extra pallid and zombie-like, it’s a flush of color to the face that makes us look a little bit more.. human.

The thing with blush is that it can be a little tedious to find what shade suits you. Out of the many reds, pinks, peaches, corals, and other colors, there is bound to be a blush of each shade that suits you best. You have to take into account your undertone, your skin type, and other bits and bobs. (Personally, I’m a bit on the cool-toned side of complexions, with an oily skin type to boot.)

City Color’s Be Matte Blush is raved throughout the Internet not only for the inexpensive price ($4.99 on their website), but also for the easy-to-blend formula matched with superior pigmentation. I picked up the shade Guava, as I don’t really go for pinks or reds or anything too bright – I prefer a natural flush, really!

I forgot what exact store I purchased mine from, but I know it was from one of the beauty and lifestyle bazaars that regularly happen here in Metro Manila. ^^;; (But for my Southies, there’s a stall in Pop Culture at Alabang Town Center that has a whole slew of City Color Cosmetics products!)

Review: Colourpop Lippie Stix in Tootsi and Ultra Matte Lip in Trap

Greige.

When I first encountered this beauty buzzword, I said “whaaaaa?” Did somebody think of typing “grey” but then think of “beige” halfway?

Turns out, that’s kind of what it is!

Greige is a combination of the words gray and beige, to describe a color that’s basically a mix of the two. The term isn’t only used for beauty and makeup, but for interior design and decoration – a quick Google search with the term “greige” and you’ll find a news article that talks all about the shade as the color that took over Pinterest in mid-2015, but do a bit of more searching and you’ll find XO Beauty Addict’s entry about how the greige lipstick trend rose to popularity near the end of 2014.

Being a late bloomer (haha), I tend to pick up trends that float around on the Internet, but never really get around to trying them for myself until months after, for a variety of reasons. However, I decided to take the plunge at giving greige a chance because of my sudden curiosity for the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kylie.

..which is why I bought these two Colourpop lipsticks: the Lippie Stix in Tootsi, and the Ultra Matte Lip in Trap!

I purchased mine from Ms. Che of Maquillage PH (Facebook | Instagram). I love her online shop because it’s the only one I know that accepts pre-orders without the necessity to deposit a downpayment upon order, with payment only requiring to be sent a week before the package arrives. It takes a little longer to arrive, but it’s worth the wait because you know your orders are legit, and not to mention the prices are really the best I’ve seen so far. Review: Too Faced Beauty Wishes and Sweet Kisses palette (Holiday 2014)

I tend to do my makeup shopping online, especially when I’m looking for products that aren’t readily available here in the Philippines. With the advent of social media, vendors and sellers have an easier way of selling their wares to a larger audience – and with eager buyers ready to explore in just a matter of a few clicks, they eventually find a shop that has what they look for.

..which is how I found Makeup Story PH on Instagram! The owner of the shop, Ms. May, is a Filipino freelance makeup artist currently based in Singapore.

Now, some of you may be iffy about products from Singapore, because a lot of imitation products and fakes which originate from China pass through Singapore. It’s such a rampant problem, coming across sellers who actually have FAKE items on sale!

But fortunately, the products she sells (and she also accepts special orders if she can find them) come mainly from Sephora SG, so you don’t have to worry about quality and authenticity. Because she is a makeup enthusiast, her main purpose is to have high-quality brands available to Filipina buyers, at the most affordable cost.

My very first purchase from her, which was in around July, was a BH Cosmetics brush set (to follow in my next review), and this Too Faced palette!

Too Faced’s Beauty Wishes & Sweet Kisses palette comes from its Holiday 2014 collection. I purchased this mainly because it was on sale for a lower price, it being off-season.. and also because I wanted to try the Chocolate Soleil bronzer so, so badly!

I have to give it to Too Faced - their packaging is adorable.

Review: LA Splash Smitten Waterproof Liptint Mousse in Nymph-adora and Bellatrix

I’ve been meaning to make this post for the longest time, but I feel that I could never really properly do so. So if you’ve been waiting for my review on this product, then today is your lucky day!

20150602_123049

I’m sure you’ve been aware of the “Harry Potter” liquid lipsticks that have been raved about through the Internet. Buzzfeed even made a video feature on these lipsticks from LA Splash! They aren’t official HP merchandise, but as a Potterhead myself, I couldn’t resist getting my hands on a couple of them!

From the LA Splash website:

Bathe your lips in intense color! The Smitten LipTint Mousse seals color on the lips for a waterproof, smudge-proof result that will not transfer or fade. Its innovative weightless formula glides on effortlessly over lips, laying down bold vibrant color with exceptional longevity and feels feather-light over the lips. When applied, the initial liquid texture immediately dries to a velvet matte, lightweight tint. The angled, dense sponge applicator makes applying the lipstick fast and easy, and precise application.

Unfortunately, they’ve renamed most of the Harry Potter lipsticks! I was lucky enough to get my hands on these before the hype really blew up, so hooray for Potter names!

It swatches differently on different people, so when reading swatches and review posts please take those with a grain of salt.

I purchased two:

  • Nymph-adora (now called Nymphaea) – I would describe this as a cool-toned rosy greige. I think this is my go-to liquid lippie when I want to go for a nude brown lip – when I feel like channeling my inner Kylie J.
  • Bellatrix (now called Belladonna) – Swatches cool-toned violet on my hand, but on my lips they come off with a touch of blue!
